James Michael Stevens The River of Calm

James Michael Stevens is a pianist, educator, and highly successful composer whose portfolio spans a plethora of genres, settings, and mediums. Best known for his serene and evocative piano works, Stevens is a master of compositional versatility who still maintains a robust romanticism and musical integrity throughout all his music.

Stevens’ music has found success in multiple ensemble combinations, markets, and countries worldwide. His compositions can be found in the choral, piano, organ, and instrumental styles for the school and church music markets and his music has been featured on network and cable television shows, such as The Young & The Restless, CBS Inside Edition, and NBC News Tonight.

Stevens has been successfully published with a vast number of industry greats, including Hal Leonard, Alfred, Warner Brothers, Hinshaw, LifeWay, Brentwood/Benson, Summin Music, and Imaginary Music Friends, amongst many others. In the performance sphere, Stevens’ compositions have found great popularity. Many of his pieces for organ received newfound acclaim when they were recently performed and recorded by Harvard University’s Composer-in-Residence, Carson Cooman. Further, Stevens’ song, “Without Love... We Have Nothing,” co-written with Joseph M. Martin, stands as one of the most iconic and frequently performed wedding songs in Korea and the wider music scene in greater Asia, with hundreds of CD recordings and over 1,500 different performances on YouTube. In addition, more than 450 of Stevens’ songs can be heard on Spotify, Pandora, Amazon Music, Apple Music, and other streaming services.

Acclaimed as an educator, Stevens serves the role of Music Department Chairman of Welch College in Gallatin, TN, and is vastly qualified for this position, holding three degrees, including a Doctorate in Composition, from prestigious institutions Samford University, The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, and the University of Kentucky. Stevens currently resides in Nashville, TN with his wife Babra, where he continues to develop and grow as a musician
